Professional help for families in crisis

Raising children is definitely the hardest job in the world, and all parents struggle from time to time. But in some families, parents’ consistent failures cause children serious harm.

Families like this often come our way after the Department of Child Safety finds kids who are at real risk of abuse or neglect. A court usually decides the parents need to get professional help from us so the family can stay intact, or reunite if kids have been removed.

How we help

We work with kids, parents and anyone else involved so that families can make big changes to keep kids safe. We:

• Help kids deal with emotional or behavioural issues through therapy
• Help mums and dads address their personal problems (relationship complications, anger management, substance misuse, mental health issues etc)
• Help parents learn how to raise their kids in a positive way through group therapy

ACT for Kids’ Intensive Therapy Service is available to families in Townsville and Brisbane’s northern suburbs. It’s run by a team of experts from different professional backgrounds like psychology, social work, education, health, speech pathology and occupational therapy. Working together, they can look at problems from different perspectives and come up with a personalised action plan for every family we see.
