Sensitive support for sexual assault victims

Recovering from sexual abuse can be extremely difficult for children and everyone in a family. Kids’ reactions can vary – they can self-harm, sink into depression, display inappropriate sexual behaviour towards others, and suffer from acute anxiety or self-image problems.

Sexual abuse can affect kids’ abilities to form close friendships, perform at school, or maintain a good relationship with non-offending family members.

How we help

Our Sexual Abuse Counselling Service is designed to help kids and parents cope with the aftermath of sexual abuse. Trained counsellors work with kids to overcome trauma, and help parents create a safe environment so abuse doesn’t happen again.

Our counsellors act as trusted advisers and problem solvers to sexual abuse survivors. They engage the family in counselling which allows kids to understand what has happened and equip carers with skills to help with the healing process. This program is currently available to families in Townsville and on the Gold Coast.
